Safer Routes To School

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are community approaches to increase the number and safety of children walking and bicycling to school. While the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is the lead agency and focuses on infrastructure efforts to enhance safety, NHTSA focuses on safety through education and enforcement efforts to influence the behavior of traffic users including motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists.

These education materials focus its discussion exclusively on ways to enhance the safety of children grades K-8 walking and bicycling to and from school.
